Tiger-Juveniles won 3 silver and 3 bronze medals in IJS Olympiad

Bangladesh team won 3 silver medals and 3 bronze medals in the 20th edition of the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO-2023). The international under-16 Olympiad with the participation of 54 countries was held on December 1-9 in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. Bangladesh team of 6 members took part in the Olympiad and all six won medals. The winners were presented with medals on December 9 at a grand ceremony at a five-star hotel in Bangkok.

On behalf of Bangladesh, Sirajus Salekin Samin, a class XI student of Comilla Victoria Government College, Faiz Ahmad, a class X student of Govt Laboratory High School, Rajshahi and Manami Zaman, a class IX student of Vikarunnisa Noon School and College, won silver medals. Subhashish Halder, a class XI student of Notre Dame College, Taslima Tasnim Lamia, a class XI student of Comilla Victoria Government College and Sabil Islam, a class VIII student of Dhaka Residential Model College, won bronze medals. They won this medal by competing with 54 countries from different regions of the world.

The Country coordinator of Bangladesh team from Thailand and General Secretary of Bangladesh Science Popularization Association Professor Dr. Farseem Mannan Mohammadi said, “Our results have been amazing this year. Further progress is needed in our experimental work. Congratulations to our students and their parents on this achievement.” Faiz Ahmed, who won the silver medal for the Bangladesh team, said, "It feels good to get the silver medal after the tireless efforts of the last few months. We hoped for something better. However, he was relieved as the entire team of Bangladesh got medals. Hopefully, with enough training, Bangladesh will get the gold next year." Another silver medalist Manami Zaman said “It feels great to have won the silver medal in the International Junior Science Olympiad 2023. We tried our best. This is the result of our hard work over the last few months. Hopefully, Bangladesh will do better results in future”. Taslima Tasnim Lamia, a class XI student of Comilla Victoria Government College, said, “Participating in the international arena and getting a bronze medal was truly a dream come true. The feeling of being able to train for one and a half to two months and then come back with a medal at the end of this ten-day experience is amazing.”

Jalal Ahmed, Senior Vice President of Al-Arafah Islami Bank, the main sponsor of the Junior Science Olympiad and assistant team leader of this year's IJSO team, said, "We are happy and proud at the achievement of Team Bangladesh . Hopefully, this streak of good results will continue in the future. Our next goal is gold medals, insh Allah. Al-Arafah Islami Bank PLC will always be with this team, Insha Allah. Congratulations to all the team members who worked hard tirelessly from front and back.” Abidur Rahman, an academic member of Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad and the assistant team leader is also there with the six-member Bangladesh team in Bangkok.

The Bangladesh team will return to Dhaka on Sunday, December 10. Members of Bangladesh Science Popularization Association will welcome the team at Dhaka Airport.

Bangladesh team has participated for the ninth time in this international Olympiad organized for secondary level students. The students of Bangladesh have achieved this honor by competing with the students of 54 countries on written tests of physics, chemistry, biology and practical tests of all subjects. In this olympiad which started on December 1, students took MCQ, theory and practical exam. Earlier, Bangladesh team won 12 silver and 21 bronze medals from IJSO in the last eight years.
